Welcome back to our "How does it work?" series. Today we're covering lasers.
Just before we start, this topic is going to cover the Guardian Lasers you may have seen in shows such as "Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!" or the Palace Anniversary Show last year, and not the spotlights seen in "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth".
So, how do they work?
A Laser is defined and created in a separate file from our show files. This allows us to spawn, move and despawn each laser. A Laser is made of two parts: the target and the start-point. Each can be moved with varying degrees of speed.
After the Laser file is created, we then tag it into our Show File, calling it at the specific time with coordinates for where the start-point and target are.
Mostly, the Laser file can be created using Relative coordinates, instead of Absolute. This means that the Laser File can be called upon multiple times, with movements happening to different places. This really helps with shows such as "Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM" where hundreds of lasers are used in short spaces of time, but very few files are used!
